Why Get a Tree Surveyed?
Do you have a tree you are concerned about?
Owners of trees have a Duty of Care to ensure their trees aren’t a danger to the safety of people or property. Getting a Professional Tree Safety survey undertaken will identify hazards or show that the tree is healthy. Afterwards liability is covered by Tay Tree Surgery’s Professional Indemnity insurance.
Tree safety surveys are usually carried on large trees near roads, busy public areas or that can damage property. Surveys are carried out for both commercial clients or homeowners.
Professional Tree Inspection
In order to do tree surveys Jan has passed the LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) certificate. This course requires a minimum of 5yrs experience, knowledge of tree health/disease and an exam, all of which must be passed at a high standard.
The Survey Process
The purpose of the survey is to identify potential hazards, these could be from for example decay fungi or structural problems such as weak unions or damaged branches. Most surveys are done from the ground looking for obvious hazards that could predictably fail in the future (usually 0-3yrs).
Trees can never be guaranteed to be 100% safe. Some hazards may only be apparent after a tree fails, and exceptional winds (ie Storm Arwen) are not covered. However, the law recognises that extreme weather and certain failures cannot be predicted and that no fault would be attributed in such circumstances.
After inspection a written report is prepared on one or more trees, often with a map and trees tagged to help identify them. Usually each tree is individually assessed and its health graded from Dead to Good. If required any tree work will be specified or no work is necessary. Furthermore Tay Tree Surgery can provide costings for this work.
